Future Plans
In early 2023, Halifax High School student, Abigail Fetterhoff, proposed an idea to the school staff: a community garden. From that seed of an idea, and with the help of many, the Halifax Community Garden (HCG) was sown.
The HCG is proud to serve the residents of Halifax and surrounding communities by providing public garden plots at minimal cost. This project aims to improve the quality of life for our residents by giving them the skills they need to provide for themselves in times of economic uncertainty and helps to improve the community’s overall resiliency.
The HCG will also have an impact school-wide including:
- Promoting sustainable gardening opportunities that are accessible to all the students on campus and school district and its partners.
- Beautifying what was an unused space that will become open to all.
- Providing learning opportunities for projects, demonstrations, installations and collaborations.
- Increasing opportunities for engagement between internal and external communities.
The HCG future plans include:
- Additional garden beds
- Greenhouse repairs
- A strong volunteer base
- Increased student-led programs in sustainability
- A strong community outreach/relationship
- Rentable greenhouse space
